I was born in Athens to a talented dressmaker and a Byzantine chanter. I studied painting and drawing under N. Nikolaou and Y. Moralis and Theatrical set design under Vas. Vasiliadis, at the School of Fine Arts, Athens Metsovio Polytechnic, and graduated as a government scholarship recipient (IKY) with high distinction and a major award.

Upon completing my studies, in 1974, I migrated to Australia with my spouse to escape limited life experiences. Survival being the main issue, supplying the studio with good quality materials was of secondary importance. A grant from the Victorian Arts Council coming at the right time, covered all the required expenses of a solo exhibition.

In the new place though, I developed an urge to discover other professional areas.

I enrolled at the Melbourne State College to graduate, specializing in teaching in the then underprivileged inner suburban schools, of high migrant population.

I became the first primary school teacher, qualified to run a bilingual program in the state system. My artistic skills perfectly matched the Ministerial philosophy and methodological expectations which was the essence of space and the prerequisite of freedom to explore it, experience and communicate.

My encounter with the then harsh demographics of the inner suburbs, of people whose reserves of interest towards aesthetics or the luxury of Art was of non-existent or limited, I felt the challenge of a series of paintings as I had to master philanthropic emotions of pity, the visuals of their appearance, their hands, their faces. That resulted in the series of “The Iconostasi of My Saints”

Experiencing the unforgiving art environment for any sort of sidetracking or experimentation or even questioning as to the social role of Art, big series have been created, ‘The Armchairs”, “The Luteplayers”, “Wings of Desire”, “Eros and Death”, “Herbs of Humility”, each time experimenting with different materials.

When the time allowed it, I worked as a children’s book illustrator, for the Ministry of Education, I organized workshops for children, at the Melbourne Museum on Greek Ancient Art, I also worked as an artist in residence in schools again promoting Greek Art.

When on leave, I was commissioned by the architectural firm of P. Madisson for a Public Art work at the New Quay Precinct.

Currently I am working on comic cartoons an unexpectedly engaging exercise as well as investigating digital Art.
