 BIO  

 

Efrossini Chaniotis is a Greek-Australian painter and sculptor passionate about exploring different ways of storytelling through art. She creates work that is largely figurative and narrative, drawing on her Greek cultural heritage. Efrossini’s style of art is uniquely hers with its striking color and composition, teamed with influences from Byzantine iconography and modern art .

Efrossini is a sculpture graduate of the South Australian School of Art and a painting graduate from the Athens School of Fine Art. Winner of the 'Lecturer's Prize for consecutive years in Athens, in 3rd year she was granted a scholarship to also study at the Madrid School of Fine Art. . Now in Australia she regularly exhibits in group and solo shows around Melbourne and has her paintings and sculptures in private collections, nationally and overseas. She has made murals and street art in Australia and overseas for community groups, council projects, private and commercial clients. The artist currently works from her Little Mykonos Studio in West Brunswick.

                                             Some Career  Highlights

  • Consistently sell-out major solo shows (2008, 2011, 2014, 2018, 2020)
  • As a contributor to the thriving Melbourne street art scene Efrossini’s work was included in the book: ‘Burn City’ by Lou Chamberlain, showcasing local Melbourne Street Art.
  • 2014 to 2015 saw the inception of her Travelling Paintbrush Project where she made art an integral part of her experience of overseas travel through Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. Applying the principals of ‘Create, Connect & Community’, over 9 months she amassed a large variety of street art and paintings for her accommodations, local businesses, communities and nonprofit organizations.
  • Launching her range of Art Gift Cards in 2019 showcasing artwork from over 30 years of practice
  • Most recently, In April 2019, among many renowned artists she was awarded the Gippsland Sculpture Prize for her indoor sculpture 'Wishing Tree: Fountain & Bird'.
